Aviation Noise Consultation

The Airports Commission* - also referred to as the Davies Commission after Sir Howard Davies who leads it - has published Aviation Noise, the fifth in a series of discussion papers, for public comment.  The paper explores current scientific understanding and existing policy on aviation and noise.  It discusses the impacts of aviation noise on health, the issue of annoyance and how this develops over time.  It considers different methodologies for measuring noise and approaches to mitigation.  And it looks at specific issues, including night noise.

Heathrow Night-Time Noise Consultation : EFRA's response

Earlier in 2013, the Department for Transport consulted on the night-time noise regime for Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airports.

Click here to see EFRA's response to this consultation, arguing for a total ban on night flights.  See also an earlier article on our website, Heathrow Updates.

Heathrow Mega Rally

Rally organised by Zac Goldsmith MP to protest against Heathrow expansion.  Local politicians and Boris Johnson are expected to attend.

See the airportwatch website for further information.

Heathrow Updates

Heathrow is resurfacing the southern runway this year.  From 3 March to 31 October 2013, Sunday evening to Friday morning inclusive, there will be no night-time runway alternation and planes flying after 10:30 pm and before 6:00 am will use the northern runway.  EFRA's area is not directly under the northern runway flightpath but even so we are likely to notice more night-time and early morning aircraft noise during this time.
