Heathrow Updates
Heathrow is resurfacing the southern runway this year. From 3 March to 31 October 2013, Sunday evening to Friday morning inclusive, there will be no night-time runway alternation and planes flying after 10:30 pm and before 6:00 am will use the northern runway. EFRA's area is not directly under the northern runway flightpath but even so we are likely to notice more night-time and early morning aircraft noise during this time.
There is more detail on Heathrow's website. You can report Heathrow 'noise incidents' here.
The Department for Transport published on 22 January a consultation on the next night-time noise regime at Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted Airports. It is the first of two consultations and seeks views and evidence on a range of issues including the effectiveness of the current regime, the costs and benefits of future options and airlines’ fleet replacement plans. The documentation sets out government thinking on how it would expect to appraise the policy options for the next night flights regime and seeks views on the approach.
Visit the gov.uk website to find out more and access two documents by the CAA about sleep disturbance.
Visit this page then scroll down if you would like to access the consultation documents and respond on line.
The consultation closes on 22 April 2013. EFRA plans to make its own response in due course.
The second consultation will come out later in 2013 and will include proposals for the new regime, such as the number of permitted night flights.
