Little Ealing Primary School Expansion

Ealing Council has decided to expand the local primary school from a two form to a three form entry that will increase the number of pupils from 500 to 710. The expansion should enable the School to admit pupils who live further away than has been possible in recent years. The majority of the additional pupils will be accommodated in a new, two storey high, classroom block facing Hereford Road. Other parts of the site will also be reconstructed. There will be an additional pedestrian entrance in Hereford Road.

EFRA’s key concerns are:

  • Pupil safety in the roads near the school, resulting from the increase in numbers and the opening of the additional entrance.
  • Demolition, rather than re-working the frontage of the former Caretaker’s House.
  • Colours proposed for the exterior glazing of the new classroom block facing Hereford Road, which are out-of-keeping with the surrounding housing.
  • Overlooking of nearby gardens and houses.

Frontage of caretaker’s house to be demolished EFRA raised these concerns with the members of the Planning Committee during their site visit. We also addressed the meeting of the Planning Committee which considered the application. In addition, we have alerted our ward councillors to these problems. Proposed colour of Hereford Road glazing along pavement edge at 1st floor level Following the Planning Committee, EFRA is in discussions with the project managers over how the concerns can be addressed. The EFRA submission to the Council’s planners is attached as a PDF format file.
